sideways

The head sports designer and I have been talking about doing a page like this almost since the start of the season. We had been really waiting for the right time and place for it to really work. This was a big game for the Seahawks. It was a tough decision because there were two huge plays in the game --- a 91 yard punt return for a touchdown and the game-winning field goal kick. We decided that the punt return should be the sports cover---a great shot of the guy running solo in front of a very annoyed St. Louis Rams bench. Josh Brown, the Seahawks kicker, has had three winning field goal kicks this season and we felt it was appropriate to really show how much the team really relies on him and his foot. Our photographer gave us this nice picture of "the kick" and we were able to run it the full length of the paper, sideways. So, with the help of my boss and the sports designers, we were able to make a fun, different page of a very important play.

prep sports

The past two weeks have been very busy in the sports world for us. Lots of football games and lots of high school state championships. This was one of our inside pages for volleyball. This photographer had never shot volleyball before and did an outstanding job---I only wish I had more space to run all of his pictures.

the market

My mom was in town last week and we had lunch ---this was the view from our table. If you look closely, you can see a guy throwing a fish. But seriously, not the most exciting picture on the planet---but I am really starting to like my new point and shoot camera.

monday night football

Our first of two Monday night football games went very smoothly. I was able to edit from the stadium and Jess, our production tech, ran cards and helped me download them. We had three photographers there. I took some good advice from my friend Seth, Star-Ledger super sports picture editor. Anyways, as I stayed to edit the takes of the photographers, my co-worker, Fred, "caught" the pictures and worked with sports. Here are the pages.....

all around, good stuff

So, just thought I would share some pages from last week's UW game. All around, I think it was a very solid paper. Our photographer had a great game and the pages look very good.

Happy Halloween

My jack-o-lanterns never look scary. They always have goofy expressions....I wonder why that is?

painful loss

Another painful loss for the Seahawks. In more ways than one.
